How to Get There

Find all the details you need to reach Ficarazzi.

General Information

Ficarazzi is a tiny village in Sicily. Yet, it is decently connected to Palermo by public transport. There are trains every 30/60 minutes from and to Palermo, the closest city, and to neighboring towns (e.g. the beautiful Bagheria, where my parents live). The train station is a 20 minutes walk from the venue. Hence, your gateway to Ficarazzi is Palermo. The Palermo airport is reasonably well connected, especially in summer. Alternative airports are Catania and Trapani. Reaching Palermo is also possible by ferry, bus or train. Below are some hints for each of these options, with extra hints for flying from Munich.

Public transport

By Flight

Flying is the fastest and most convenient way to reach Sicily. The closest airports to Ficarazzi are Palermo (PMO), Catania (CTA), and Trapani (TPS).

Palermo Airport (PMO)

Palermo Airport is the closest. Any other option will require you to get to Palermo first (see below). Upon arrival, take the airport shuttle bus or the train to Palermo city center, then transfer to a train to Ficarazzi. Super easy. As a tip, you can search on Skyscanner for flights from Palermo to "anywhere" to get a glance at the direct connections available.

Catania Airport (CTA)

Located on the wrong other side, Catania Airport is a valid alternative. It offers complementary options with respect to Palermo, so it's worth checking. By public transport, you can take a direct bus (~14 euro) from Catania Airport to Palermo (but make sure to check the times before booking your flights), then connect to Ficarazzi (see Palermo). As a tip, you can search on Skyscanner for flights from Catania to "anywhere" to get a glance at the direct connections available.

Trapani Airport (TPS)

On the west coast, Trapani Airport is roughly 1.5-2 hours drive from Ficarazzi. It is a small airport with very few options; yet, it may surprise you with unexpected connections. From there you can take a direct bus from the Trapani airport to Palermo and then connect to Ficarazzi (see Palermo). As a tip, you can search on Skyscanner for flights from Trapani to "anywhere" to get a glance at the direct connections available.

Special tips from Munich

If you're coming from Munich, don't be scared at the cost of the flights from the Munich airport (MUC). That's an airport for reach people. If you want to save money (but not your knees), you should check flights from Memmingen (FMM) or Nuremberg (NUE) airports. You can reach both by train+bus (covered by the Deutschland ticket) from Munich in about 2 hours, and they are served by low-cost airlines with direct flights to Palermo and Catania. If you fly through Memmingen, you can also take a direct bus from Munich Hbf to the Memmingen airport which is pretty fast and costs 16 euros.

By Train

Italy's train network connects major cities to Palermo. From Palermo Centrale station, take a regional train to Ficarazzi station (about 10 minutes). Trains run frequently throughout the day (meaning once or twice per hour...). Sicily is only reached by the national train service, Trenitalia. You can check connections and book tickets on the Trenitalia website or app. Beware that it is a long train journey if you are coming from abroad, Italy is a long country...

By Bus

Long-distance buses arrive at Palermo's main bus station. From there, the train can take you to Ficarazzi. Companies like FlixBus or regional operators serve Palermo from across Italy. Omio is a good generic platform for booking transport.

By Ferry

Panormus, the ancient name of Palermo, means "all port". Indeed, you can reach it by ferry. It is not the most comfortable of trips, but it has its charm. There are ferries from Naples, Genova and Civitavecchia (close to Rome) among others. You can check connections and book tickets on the Direct Ferries website.
